Our Current Favorite Things (June 2026)

Three employees at Carden Custom Framing show off their favorite products, with the text 'Our Current Favorite Things!' displayed prominently.

You know what’s one of the best things about working in an art supply shop? It’s being surrounded by art supplies! We have the privilege of making sure our tried-and-true favorites are always in stock, plus we get to try out new mediums, brands, and substrates based on the recommendations of our customers and suppliers.

With all the wonderful things in our shop, people often ask us for recommendations. So here are our current favorite art supply items for July 2026!

David’s Current Favorite Thing

Water Brush Pens

These brushes fill with water, allowing artists to use water-based mediums like watercolor and gauche on the go. This works perfectly for David who currently leads the Prairie Plein Art Artist group and is often painting outdoors. These convenient tools are great not only on the go, but for limited size art spaces or for quick art sessions.

Alicia’s Current Favorite Thing

Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors – Undersea Green

Alicia has always been a big fan of the Daniel Smith line of watercolors, and she uses it in all of her paintings. Recently, this love has become focused into a single pigment–Undersea Green. It’s natural tint and hue evokes a feeling of nature, which is perfect for Alicia’s intuitive landscapes.

AJ’s Current Favorite Thing

Speedball Lino Cutting Supplies

Okay, AJ wants to be real with you–she is still learning how to linocut and in no way feels like she can offer an expert opinion. What she DOES feel confident in stating is she appreciates the low cost of the Speedball brand lino cutting supplies, which helped lower the barrier of entry to try new art techniques.

Your Current Favorite Thing!

Do you have a “favorite thing” when it comes to art supplies? Let us know in the comments or stop by the store. If we don’t already have it in stock, we can order it for you. Then, who knows? Maybe your favorite thing will become our favorite thing.
