You know what’s one of the best things about working in an art supply shop? It’s being surrounded by art supplies! We have the privilege of making sure our tried-and-true favorites are always in stock, plus we get to try out new mediums, brands, and substrates based on the recommendations of our customers and suppliers.

With all the wonderful things in our shop, people often ask us for recommendations. So here are our current favorite art supply items for July 2026!

David’s Current Favorite Thing

Quill-style Brush

One of David’s favorite artists is Marius, known as marsketcher on YouTube. He is an ink and watercolor illustrator who travels the world to fill his sketchbooks. One of his primary tools is a quill style brush to apply his watercolors. David loves this brush for the ability to take in large amounts of liquid to mop a paper. But with its pointed tip, this brush also has the ability to apply more detailed color work.

Uniball Signo White Gel Pen

After trying a few white gel pens to achieve a pop of white her watercolors, Alicia has come to appreciate Uniball’s Signo brand of white gel pens. These pens offer a thick opacity, which is perfect for applying on darker, painted surfaces. The lifespan of these pens also exceeds those of other standard market gel pens, making it a perfect addition for the artist’s toolbox.

Speedball Fine Printmaking Paper

AJ has been diving deeper and deeper into her new printmaking obsession. There may be a day where she splurges on a block printing press, but for now, she prints everything with a hand-held brayer. For her, the best paper for this technique has been Speedball’s Fine Printmaking Paper. This thin, unbleached paper easily picks up all the fine details of carved blocks–something that can be hard to achieve with thicker paper when hand-pressing.
